Nel 1925 l'ingegnere Archibald Montgomery Low pubblica The Future

dove racconta un giorno nella vita di un uomo del futuro

Si tratta di un libro di fantasia, di fantascienza scritto da uno scienziato

e come spesso succede il libro di fantasia si rivela "profetico"

Low immagina persone che la mattina si svegliano per andare a lavorare

grazie a un sistema programmato a un'ora precisa

era possibile conoscere il sesso di un bambino in anticipo sulla nascita,

altoparlanti domestici e una macchina televisiva per le informazioni e l'intrattenimento su richiesta,

telefoni che permettono di chiamare da qualunque luogo ci si trovasse,

e premendo un pulsante era possibile connettersi a trasmissioni globali.

Ha immaginato anche una possibile comunicazione telepatica,

e l'illuminazione stradale grazie ad erbe aromatiche

Lui stesso come ingegnere, ha progettato primi sistemi di guida radiofonica per aerei e razzi guidati,

sempre in quel periodo ha lavorato anche anche all'invenzione della televisione

oltre a pubblicazioni di libri prettamente scientifici.

Nel 1976 Low è stato inserito nella International Space Hall of Fame.

Low imagines people who wake up in the morning to go to work
