Il Filo dell’Alleanza è il racconto della creazione e della realizzazione di un opera di Daniela Papadia,
un artista che parte da Palermo per la Terra Santa.
La sua idea è far ricamare a sei comunità di donne di etnie diverse, che vivono in Israele e Palestina,
un arazzo di 5,60 metri per 2,40.
L’arazzo rappresenta una mappa del Mediterraneo,
disegnata al suo interno da una ricostruzione grafica di alcuni geni del sangue.
Il sangue simboleggia la vita, è un legame non solo di natura relazionale ma anche biologica.
Noi tutti siamo simili e diversi, uguali e unici.
Il Filo dell’Alleanza è quindi un viaggio nella vita delle donne Israeliane, Palestinesi, Druse e Beduine
che vogliono provare a ricucire gli strappi ricamando i geni del sangue,
metafora del sangue versato in una terra martoriata da guerre tra fratelli.

The work (12 metres by two) is my personal elaboration of the 23 chromosomes
present in the map of the human genome. A detail of each chromosome is seen in close-up,
a ‘zoom’ shot of a particular region of interest (in the order of 100 megabases)
that highlights a particular genetic structure and the sequencing
of that given chromosomic segment enlarged one billion times.
A gene with a particular function and involved in a particular disease
has been chosen from each chromosome.
In the case of chromosome 15, and its segment q25, for example, the highlighted gene
is believed to be responsible for pulmonary cancer.
Each chromosome contains a number of genes, some better understood than others, and our understanding of these represents a major challenge for the sciences of medicine and biology.
